Karta's Universal Access Programme

At Karta, we seek to not only transform the lives of a few individuals, but of hundreds and thousands. Our Universal Access Programme focuses on impact at scale, providing youth across India with valuable tools and resources to support decision making and skill building.

Harnessing the reach of technology

We provide thousands of youth with access to free, high- quality information and resources on career pathways through our own digital platform, Karta Connect.

Karta Connect is a bespoke online platform and app that allows us to easily share resources, host webinars, and connect with students. Made specifically for our target audience, Karta Connect is designed for their needs and environments – catering for low bandwidth and inconsistent access to technology.

Working alongside teachers

Teachers are some of the biggest influencers for youth. That’s why they sit at the heart of our Universal Access . Programme, helping to shape, advocate and deliver our activities with students in partner schools.

Karta's Targeted Access Programme

Through tailored activities we are enhancing post-school readiness for students commencing their penultimate year of school education.

For the young people we work with, this can be a challenging time where the pressure to ‘succeed’ is high and yet opportunities are increasingly difficult to access.

This programme stream is human-led and tech-enabled. Our aim is to combine the individual impact you can achieve through personal engagement with the reach that online learning supports.

A blended human-tech approach for broader impact.

The Targeted Access Programme is delivered by our team of Program Officers working directly with our partner schools, supported by our digital platform Karta Connect.

Karta Connect is a bespoke online platform and app that allows us to easily share course material as well as facilitating digital webinars and I-to-I mentoring. With the support of this technology, more students are able to take part in our targeted access programmes.

The Karta Award

Combining skill development, self exploration and community service, the Karta Award aims to empower students to gain employability skills and make more informed career decisions. A variety of activities are taking place throughout the year as part of the award, including workshops, webinars and I-on-I mentoring. Delivery of the award is supported by our digital platform, Karta Connect, as well as a community of teachers and principals at partnering JNV schools across India.

Karta's Advance Digital Literacy (ADL)

As we all know, strong digital literacy is a prerequisite to success in the modern world. Digital literacy can cover a huge range of skills but intervention is often limited to basic concepts such as online safety, software navigation and finding information online. To really thrive in today’s society, however, young people need a more advanced level of digital skills. They need skills that go beyond the mere accessing of information, into realms of information presentation, analysis and communication – skills that will enable them to solve problems throughout their study and future careers with greater efficiency and effectiveness.

Karta’s Advanced Digital Literacy (ADL) course is a self-paced, fully online course through which students learn to present information, manipulate it and automate it’s analysis. All tasks are rooted in real-world problems, allowing students to really see how their learnings might relate to problems they may need to tackle in the future. ADL is a key component of our wider programming supporting youth to reach their full potential. With these skills at their disposal, they will be able to organise and analyse information to make more informed decisions about their futures, and to be more productive in whatever paths they choose to take after school.

We work closely with our partner schools to ensure students have proper device access to participate in this course, which is delivered through our own technology Karta Connect and Google’s Applied Digital Skills online repository. This programme is highly scalable, requiring minimal human input to feedback on assignments, allowing us to deliver this to hundreds of students simultaneously.
